"Twinning" of Mnyakongo with UK School

Angelina Munduli, Head Teacher at Mnyakongo, had expressed to the group who visited in October, her wish to have a school in UK to "twin" with and in November 2008 the "twinning" of Mnyakongo Primary School with Waltham St. Lawrence Primary School in Berkshire finally became a reality. The schools have exchanged letters and photographs and wait for the time when they can communicate over the internet.

  Electricity Supply

Investigations are underway to ascertain the best solution for getting power to the school. Tanesco quote has been received - now awaiting information regarding solar panels for power. See "Fundraising" notice.

  Library

Plans are underway to install a library at Mnyakongo. It is anticipated that the project would be completed during the last two weeks of May 2010 by volunteer faculty and students from San Diego State University, under the guidance of Peter Larlham. The group would transport the books from Dar-es-Salaam to Kongwa, paint the room set aside for the library, install the shelving and catalogue the books.

  Computers

Angelina Munduli has said that two computers would suffice initially. She expects that access to the internet would be undertaken by teachers for educational material and communication with the "twin". The classrooms do not have doors so the computers would have to be kept in an office with a secure door. Purchase of doors could be undertaken if funds allowed.
