Hello Everyone
Following the successful, rewarding and
very moving trip to my old school in Kongwa, Tanzania (now
called Mnyakongo Primary School) in October 2008 with a small
group of ex-pupils, I am now focusing on getting the electricity
supply to the school and having the classrooms wired up so
that, with a couple of computers, they would have access
to educational material on the internet. We did pay for some
electricity poles last year but this was a mere drop in the
ocean compared with the official quote received from the
power supplier once the survey was completed. The amazing
sum of $4500 in donations last year was used to set up a
contract with a local NGO Ufundiko (training school) for
the supply of 60 desks and 12 teacher's tables and chairs.
Obviously more desks are needed at a school of 821 pupils
where half of them are taught in the morning and the other
half in the afternoon and another classroom would be a great
benefit too. This is where they need your help.
A Community Account, named Mnyakongo School
Project, has been set up at Barclays Bank specifically for
this fundraising. Donations can either be deposited directly
into it online (see details below) or paid in by cheque or
cash. If you would like to support this project please make
your donation through your bank to the account below. Alternatively,
if you prefer to send a cheque, please make it out to Mnyakongo
School Project and send to my home address at 2A College
Road, Maidenhead, Berkshire, SL6 6BE.

I will see to it that all donations are applied solely for
the benefit of the children at the school. It is my wish to
support local workmen for any installations at the school and
local businesses for any purchases. I will also take photos
of completed projects so you can see that your money has been
well spent.
You may have seen the 6 minute clip from the visit in October
2008, if not, here's the link:

Thank you for reading this through and thank you for your
support.
Sincerely
Barbara (aka: Barb/Babs/Larly)
