  OPENING PRAYER – 1948

“We lift up our hearts to Thee O God, in thankfulness for the many goods things in our daily lives; that we can run and play and work and learn; for our homes and parents and friends, and that we can come to know Thee and Thy truth; And now we ask for Thy blessing on our new school, and on the lives we shall live and the work we shall do, in this place. Open our minds to Thee from whom all truth doth come; and open our hearts to love, that we may care for others as we care for ourselves; and so enable us to live and work and play together in fellowship and in fullness of life; through Jesus Christ Our Lord. AMEN.”

EDITORIAL

In this, the second issue of “The Georgian”, we have endeavoured to improve upon our earlier efforts. Readers will find several new items, such as the list if names and addresses of old scholars. So we hope the magazine will bring together again those who were once friends here, as well as tell the story of the school to the present and past pupils.

Yet the real story of any school is not told in its magazine but in the children it produces. They are the school. Buildings, headmaster, Staff – all play their part but the children are the school. By their quality the school is judged. Headmaster, Teachers, Matrons, all may work and do their best but ultimately everything depends on the efforts of the children. So, they too, must work and do their best, always, here and in the world outside. As nearly as the children approach the highest standard in all they do, so nearly does the school attain excellence.

This issue of the Magazine, planned on the lines of the previous issue, was produced under the auspices of a Magazine Committee consisting of the Headmaster as Chairman, Miss Strong, Miss Hurley, Miss Bayliss, Miss Frost, Mr. Shuttleworth, Mr. Moore, Mr. Bijl, the School Captain, Head Girl, Head Boy and House Representatives.
